This intends to be a practical guide for travelers coming to Lima and staying in Miraflores or Barranco.  It´s of utmost importance to know in advance how to transfer safely from Lima airport to Miraflores & Barranco.

Lima´s International Airport, Jorge Chávez, ranks since many years among the best airports in South America.  However, it´s located in Callao which is not a very safe area particularly for tourists.

Based on our research as for 2017, we  detail here the best transfer options:

Airport Express Lima

This is the official airport bus service between the airport and Miraflores only. Once you clear your luggage and pass Immigration you will find the stand of Airport Express Lima close to the exit to the ground transport zone. Together with your ticket you will be given a free map of Lima. A member of the staff will mark the stop closest to your destination and lead you to your bus. There are 7 bus stops on the way from Lima airport to Miraflores. Each of them is less than 5 minutes walking to most hotels in Miraflores. Once you arrive to your final stop the ground staff will show you how to arrive to your place. The frequency of buses running to Miraflores is 60 per day which means that there is always a bus ready for you.

Buses are fully equipped with WiFi and USB ports, GPS tracking, on board security cameras, luxury seats, toilet. There is no baggage limit.

Price from Lima airport to Miraflores (any stop)

  • Adults U$ 8.00  Round trip:  US$ 15.
  • Children from 4 to 15 years  US$  6.00  –  US$ 12
  • Children up to 4 years old:  Free

If you buy your ticket online you can use it for any departure.  And online ticket holders will have preference when the bus is full.

Quickllama

This is another new service with already lots of satisfied customers, also going only to Miraflores. The best choice for backpckers and low-budget travelers.  You can easily reserve your van through whatsapp. They don´t have a stand inside the airport but on the airport parking lot, just behind the Costa del Sol Hotel.  You can easily notice the purple vans which carry the logo of a llama.  They have 3 bus stops at central places in Miraflores from where you can also take your bus back to the aiport. Just tell them which is your hotel and they will drop you off at the nearest stop. Although they only have 3 stops, note that the center of Miraflores is not that big so it´s a good option if you don´t mind some walking.

Taxis

By all means  you are advised not to take a local taxi outside of the airport. Remember it´s an unsafe area.

Taxi Green.  (No web in English)  Its taxi drivers will approach you as soon as you get out of Customs. It´s perhaps the most popular here at the airport. While there are many satisfied customers some others didn´t have a good experience. The best way to avoid any inconvenience is to go directly to their stand at the airport, pay there and ask for a receipt.

Fare to Miraflores for a car up to 3 persons with not so much luggage:  S/. 70.00 (around US$ 21.00)  and S/. 80.00 (around US$ 24.00) to Barranco.  For 4 persons a van to Miraflores: S/ 95.00 (US$ 28.00) and S/ 110 (US$ 33.00) to Barranco.

Taxidatum.  They don´t have a stand at the airport but you can book them on line and they will wait for you with a board with your name. If you feel satisfied with their service you can hire  them again when you reach Cusco.  They have excellent reviews in tripadvisor.  Fare:  US$ 20.00 from Lima airport either to Miraflores or Barranco.

Transfer time from the Lima airport to Miraflores is about 40 minutes.  Add 10 minutes more for Barranco. However, this can vary a lot depending on the hour or day of the week. Traffic is not the same at 2:00 am as at 6:30 pm. Not the same on a Sunday morning than a Friday night.
